Doing an internship at Nanopixel is doing an internship like nowhere else

At Nanopixel we are always open to motivated trainees. We firmly believe that a trainee can mean as much for us as we do for them. With this idea we take on every internship. Recently, Doortje and Michiel started their 18-week internship as 3D artist, and they like to share their first impression with the outside world!

Nine weeks consist of forty-five working days. Forty-five working days that have flown by. When I think about it, I can hardly believe that I am ready for the second half of my internship. Time flies! The atmosphere here really contributes to that. In the office it is very nice, everyone is super friendly and the team is ready to help you when needed. There is always room for humor and a chat, but that does not take away from the fact that everyone is very focused. There is a lot of work, but at Nanopixel they have in one way or another found a good balance between relaxation and performance. You really feel that everyone is eager to deliver high-quality work, and the spontaneity that hangs in the air pushes all the noses in the same direction.

The CEO, Dietrich, is also actively concerned about the atmosphere in the group. This is how I already got to know the nanonights. These are evenings during which the entire team (at least, who is available) stays together. We then played poker all together and that was really nice! Another example is that he invited the visual team to look at an episode of Chef’s Table one afternoon. Just for inspiration! In the beginning I was a little afraid of the internship because I did not know what to expect. Unfounded in retrospect, because I really could not have imagined it better. Johanna and Marieke were my 2 ‘mentors’. They have taken me from the beginning in tow, with the emphasis that I as a creative person could do my own thing. I was very free to try things as long as it fit the project. It was immediately large projects for real customers. They ensured that there was no fear of failure. It is mainly through them that I could achieve such nice results in such a short time. I really feel that I have made progress and that makes me very happy!

I have already learned a lot in these 9 weeks, but I still learn every day. Above you can see how I have evolved during my internship!

Michiel Flipts - student Applied Architecture

On 13 February I started my internship at Nanopixel, which normally runs until 24 May. I am a final year student, so I stand for an important moment in my career. Next year I will have to make the choice between ‘continuing to study’ or ‘entering work life’. Thanks to my internship at Nanopixel, I am more and more convinced to opt for the latter.

At first the first day was a bit uncomfortable for me. I came up with no other task than “go around with everyone at ease, discover who does what”. Soon I noticed that this uncomfortable feeling was not necessary, because everyone was very receptive to show me everything. I tried to change into a sponge to include as much information as possible, which I did quite well. The next day I was allowed to start the real work immediately! A challenge that I had been looking forward to for a while, but on the other hand I also had some fear. Fortunately, I was well taken care of by Robin. He has guided me throughout the entire period. Since day 2 I have been able to occupy myself every day with assignments for real customers. This sense of responsibility gave me great satisfaction. There was some pressure on my shoulders, but I noticed that this was the right way to push me and get good results. It was good to see that my colleagues entrusted me with real assignments and I am very happy that I have become acquainted with the professional field in this way!

My experience as a trainee at Nanopixel is therefore only positive. I have not only learned a lot, but I also got even more the desire to develop myself. When I finished my computer at work placement, I often came home to continue experimenting with what I was doing. Thanks to Nanopixel, I look even more every day to finally work as a 3D artist next year.
