3 applications of 3D product visualization
Lights off, spotlight on
Creating photos and videos for lighting is not simple. The lighting always has to be just right, and that is not easy to capture in a photo. That is why 3D visualization is such a relief for the lighting industry, especially in the design segment. Anything is possible, such as dynamically showing different lighting options. This allows you to demonstrate the effect of a lamp in lighter or darker rooms.
You can also dim lights, move fixtures, adjust the effect of a lamp on a wall, and much more. Think, too, of the arrival of augmented reality, where customers can see the lighting in their own space. For now, there is still a strong focus on traditional catalogues, but 3D visualization offers endless possibilities for social media, for example, and for a dynamic online catalogue.
Floor in sight
In the flooring industry, the transition to 3D visualization has already been fully made. Customers expect a realistic representation of what their future floor will look like, preferably in different environments. Whereas with lighting the atmosphere of the entire room is key, here two thirds of the image should consist of flooring. That requires adapted camera angles, which are not always so easy to achieve with traditional photography.
What also works very well here is the combination of 3D visualization and 3D configuration. With one click of the mouse, you can place different floors in the same room. A dream for a customer who wants to assess the effect of a particular product immediately.
Sleek, playful, and everything in between
The furniture industry too, with giants like Ikea leading the way, is discovering the power of 3D visualization. Taste is subjective, so one customer may prefer a sleek and modern style, while another leans toward rustic, playful or futuristic.
3D visualization can cater to every taste: you can place furniture in different settings, change colours, enlarge spaces, move items around, create detailed close-ups, and more. This allows companies not only to present their products in a range of styles, but also to translate them into an online configurator. In principle, customers can browse almost the entire catalogue within a single virtual scene and adapt products to their own preferences.
The common thread running through all these applications? Aesthetics. You want to present your product as beautifully and stylishly as possible. In the past, that meant building sets or searching for suitable locations and props. Now your set is built digitally, including the endless options of 3D configuration.
